The Bakery Atlanta Earns Multi-year Grant from Nation’s Top Private Arts Funder
Atlanta, Georgia [September 12, 2025] — The Bakery Atlanta is proud to announce that they have been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation. Spanning 36 months, this transformative support will strengthen The Bakery’s general operations, enabling the multifaceted arts nonprofit to continue uplifting artists and fostering community through exhibitions, educational programs, and digital resources.
The Bakery has been pivotal within Atlanta’s arts ecosystem since 2017. Gaining 501(c)3 status in 2023 enabled them to fortify their unique position on the ladder. This year, they celebrate their Golden Birthday - turning 8 on October 8th. They are proud to have produced and hosted 1,300 in-person experiences that inspired people to experiment, collaborate, and play. Through this work, they have served over 3,000 artists and welcomed 20,000 people through their doors over their lifespan. They’ve also connected with an online community of over 40,000 people. This multi-year funding strengthens The Bakery Atlanta’s foundation for the future.
The Bakery team has been tirelessly, and excitedly, providing arts services since 2017 and does not intend to stop. With a 10-year lease at their current location, The Supermarket, the organization is ready to remain a staple for the local and regional community.
“I've always trusted we were on the right path and that just doing the work would eventually lead to success. Now, 8 years after we named a big ole warehouse The Bakery, that conviction has finally come true,” says Willow Goldstein, Founder and Executive Director. “This support validates our efforts, ensures our sustainability, and fosters our growth by making a huge long-term impact on our organization, and therefore, the entire cultural fabric of Atlanta.”
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is the nation's largest supporter of the arts and humanities. Since 1969, the Foundation has been guided by its core belief that the humanities and arts are essential to human understanding. The Foundation believes that the arts and humanities are where we express our complex humanity, and that everyone deserves the beauty, transcendence, and freedom that can be found there.
The Bakery Atlanta is on a mission to broaden awareness of, and build community around, progressive ideas in the arts. They envision an Atlanta that supports the emerging, DIY, and underground arts as it grows, locally and in the Southeast.
